Argentina v Croatia - Croatia qualify after thrashing Argentina - 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia - Match 23
Croatia are through to the World Cup last-16 after a 3-0 victory against a poor Argentina side.
Argentina goalkeeper Willy Caballero gifted Croatia the opening goal after 53 minutes when he passed the ball straight to Ante Rebić and the striker volleyed in expertly.
With ten minutes left Croatia captain Luka Modric made it 2-0 with a superb strike from long-range and in injury-time Ivan Rakitić wrapped up the win with the third.
Speaking on BBC Match of the Day former England striker Alan Shearer said: “Croatia were very, very impressive. Their three midfielders - they were totally dominant - they gave everything you want from a midfield trio. They were magnificent. Argentina are a broken team - they’re a shambles.”
Croatia lead group D with six points - a draw in their last game against Iceland will secure first place. Argentina, who have one point from two matches, can still qualify, but on this display Lionel Messi and Co could struggle.
Argentina’s fate is now out of their hands because Iceland, who play Nigeria on Friday, can qualify if they secure four more points.
